چکیده
In spite of much research work within recent years comparatively little has been discovered concerning the causation of accidental haemorrhage. Most writers, including Gordon Ley1 and Whitridge Williams,2 have agreed in ascribing it to toxaemia of pregnancy, while others, led by James Young of Edinburgh, have looked upon the toxaemia as secondary to, and consequent upon the haemorrhage. According to Young,3 the placenta separated by haemorrhage undergoes necrosis, and during the early stages of the necrosis autolytic products are absorbed into the circulation through the portion of placenta still attached to the uterine wall. These products, acting upon the maternal

Treatment of Concealed Accidental Hæmorrhage by Conservative Cæsarean Section *Read 10th May 1923.
TlIE consensus of opinion seems to favour the view that if Cesarean section is performed in cases of concealed accidental haemorrhage, the diseased uterus must thereafter of necessity be removed by hysterectomy. The prevalent belief is that the damage to the uterine wall from interstitial haemorrhages, with the accompanying loss of tone, stretching and paralysis of the muscle fibres precludes t...

In mammals, the placenta is the most important channel for the exchange of Materialss between the maternal and fetal bloods. The present study investigates the time-dependent effect of the addiction duration of maternal morphine consumption during pregnancy. Material...

The purpose of this communication is to submit evidence in favour of acceptance of the hypothesis advanced by Dr James Young in 1914 as to the importance of placental infarction in the etiology of the toxaemias of the later months of pregnancy. Young's earlier work in this connection is so well known to the Society that it is unnecessary to refer to it in great detail. It will be recalled that ...
متن کاملNote on a Case of Concealed Accidental Hæmorrhage Treated by Hysterectomy 1Read 10th January 1923.
Two years ago we communicated to the Society a short report of a case of concealed accidental haemorrhage which had come under our care in the Maternity Hospital. As the condition is perhaps the most serious complication of pregnancy, and of comparative rarity, we think it right to put on record a short account of a second case which recently came under our conjoint care. This second case, thou...
متن کاملThe Clinical Condition of the Uterine Wall in Concealed Accidental Hæmorrhage *Read 9th June 1926.
As the present communication is introductory to the succeeding paper upon treatment, it deals only with the clinical condition of the uterine muscle from that point of view. Nevertheless, the state of the uterine wall is intimately associated with the problem of the retention of blood within the uterus, and the subject can best be approached by a short consideration of this phenomenon, in expla...
